Integrated swimming pool hoist
Moving from the dressing rooms through the showers into the pool. And back.
On a recent visit to a primary school complex in Assen, Netherlands, this integrated hoist and transport system really impressed.
In particular, allowing the individual to change and get connected to the hoist in private was particularly thoughtful, giving the time and pace needed.
The transfer rail, pictured above, then moves through the dressing room and showers before entering into the pool area, extending well over the pool to allow for a safe transfer into the water. The return journey works equally well.
The engineering is more robust than typical pool-side lifts, yielding a longer design life, and does not impede access at pool edge.
Finally, this system was installed in both male and female changing rooms.
The real gain is in the dignity afforded to those who have no choice but to use hoists to access the water.
Can we make this a design standard for new and replacement installations?
